Description

"Stem mostly subterranean, 8-15 cm diam. Leaves 2-10 in the crown, at first erect, later spreading, 45-80 cm long, rachis not twisted or up to 180° near the end, but usually ± recurved throughout; pinnae 80-130, pinnae once or twice divided, longest pinnae 10-20 cm long, undivided pinnae 3-7 mm wide, divided segments l-5 mm wide; petiole 5-12 cm long. Male cones 12-20 cm long, 4-5 cm diam., spines to 1.4 cm long. Female cones 10-25 cm long, 8-12 cm diam., longest spines 1-2 cm long; seeds 2-3.5 cm long, scarlet" (Harden 1990).

Distribution and Ecology

"In dry sclerophyll forest on sandy and stony soils, mainly in the ranges; chiefly in the Pilliga - Warrumbungle Ra. area, also at Warialda and Howell" (Harden 1990).
