Two subspecies:
"A shrub up to 5 m high which climbs or is prostrate. Shoots slender, drooping. Leaves up to 2 mm long. Male inflorescences ovate, almost sessile, bracts solid, globose; female inflorescences 1-2 together, with 2-3 pairs of bract scales. Fruit 8-9 mm long, red" (Vidakovic 1991).
