Tree: Height 15-20 m with a large, flattened crown (Silba 1986).
Bark: Tan, exfoliating in fine plates or scales, with small lenticels. Inner bark red-brown (Silba 1986).
Leaves: Alternate, lanceolate to elliptic, bluntly acute, 6-8 cm × 1.5-2 cm, shortly petiolate. Juvenile leaves oval-lanceolate, attenuate at the base, 8-10 cm × 2.6-3.5 cm. Buds globular (Silba 1986).
Cones: Globular, 9 cm × 7 cm, on a thick peduncle (Silba 1986).
Cone scales: Ovoid, obtuse (Silba 1986).
Pollen cones: Cylindrical, 4-5 × 0.8-1 cm, scales imbricate and slightly denticulate (Silba 1986).
Seeds: Rounded with an obovoid wing on one side (Silba 1986).
"NE New Caledonia: Mt. Panie, 1000-1640 m" (Silba 1986). The IUCN reports that the population status is stable. The WCMC states that it is locally abundant and in an area which is relatively inaccessible and well protected.
