Agathis lenticula
Tanggilan, tengilan, tungilan [Dusun] (de Laubenfels 1988); Sabah kauri (Silba 1986).
"An immense tree to 45 m tall. Produces white resin. Bark gray-white externally, internally reddish-brown, exfoliating in irregular plates, with numerous lenticels. Juvenile trees with flaky bark. Juvenile leaves round, acuminate, on a short peduncle, to 10 cm long by 4.4 cm wide. Adult leaves lenticular, apex acute, 5-7 cm long by 1.8-2.4 cm wide, glaucous below, on a short peduncle. Male strobili cylindrical, to 4 cm long by 10 mm wide, on a peduncle to 6 mm long; scale apices round. Female cone-scale semi-elliptical, 28 mm high by 40-45 mm wide. Young female cone oval with imbricate margins of seed scales sometimes slightly raised" (Silba 1986).
Borneo: Sabah, Mt. Kinabalu and the Crocker Range, where it grows at 1140-1680 m elevation as an emergent in mountain rainforest (de Laubenfels 1988).
The IUCN reports that this species is facing a high risk of extinction in the wild due to a small population size in a restricted area that is vulnerable to chance events that could cause great harm. The WCMC adds that it occurs only in lower montane forest and possibly hill forest on Mt. Kinabalu and the adjacent Crocker range. "Populations in the former are relatively well protected. The Crocker range, however, is a large area with a poorly defined boundary. There are frequent illegal incursions, mainly to remove timber from this species."
